Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging

Creating an inclusive, fair and respectful environment – based on merit and the enhancement of each individual's potential – generates value for everyone by improving trust in relationships, fostering creativity and innovation, increasing the effectiveness and efficiency of business processes, strengthening the ability to respond proactively and flexibly to the challenges of the future, and consolidating a sense of belonging.

For this reason, in December 2024, our Group defined a new Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging (DEIB) policy, which marks a further step forward. It’s an innovative vision that welcomes and values the uniqueness of each individual, embodies Enel's values, and is based on six key dimensions (Parenting and Caregiving, Generations at the Center, Gender Equity and Equal Pay, Cultural Integration, Recognizing Vulnerability, Affective Orientation and Gender Identity).

This policy is being seamlessly integrated into initiatives and projects, permeating behavior and relationships both inside and outside the Group.

The direction being taken is clear: we are adopting Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging policies as fundamental pillars for business development and people growth.

Our commitment to promoting cultural diversity is clear from the fact that we have staff with over 80 different nationalities who speak 24 different languages in the various countries in which we have a presence.  

In 2021, women accounted for 52.1% of the candidates selected. 23.6% of our managers were women compared to 21.6% in 2020, while 31.4% of middle management were female (up from 30.4% in 2020). 

In 2023, Bloomberg included us in its Gender Equality Index for the third time in acknowledgment of the actions we took to promote the presence of women on the Board, in managerial positions and as new hires, our contribution in terms of equal pay, design of social benefits and work/life balance solutions, and in sexual harassment prevention initiatives.

Also in 2023, we were named one of the Top 100 companies for the third year in Equileap’s Gender Equality Global Report & Ranking, and were the highest of all the Italian companies present. This is the result of our actions to promote the presence of women on the Board, in managerial positions and in employee selection, for our contribution to equal pay and the promotion of the wellbeing and work/life balance of all of our employees. Our human rights, prevention of violence, abuse and sexual assault practices were also recognized.
