Valerio Giardina was appointed Head of Security at the Enel Group in September 2023.
He attended the Military Academy in Modena and has held several operational command positions in the Carabinieri Corps, including various in Sicily, and in the elite investigations corps of ROS, Raggruppamento Operativo Speciale: Special Operations Group in Rome, Catanzaro and Reggio Calabria. After assuming the Provincial Command of the Carabinieri in Bologna, he was appointed Commander of the Carabinieri Tutela Ambientale e Sicurezza Energetica (Carabinieri Environmental Protection and Energy Security) division. In that capacity, he was involved, among other things, in drafting the bill to amend Title VI of Book II of the Penal Code and crimes in environmental matters, which were considered prerequisites for the administrative liability of entities, as contemplated in the Legislative Decree 231/2001. He also played an important role in adding the forest, environmental and agri-food security competencies to the Carabinieri Military Code and in establishing the position of Carabiniere Ispettore Ambientale (Carabiniere Environmental Inspector).
He graduated in Law at La Sapienza University in Rome and in Security Science and in Internal and External Security Science at the University of Tor Vergata in Rome. He subsequently received a second level Master's in Intelligence from the University of Calabria in Cosenza and a Master's in Global Strategy and Security from the University of Turin.
He attended the 70th Advanced training course at the “Centro Alti Studi della Difesa” in Rome and the 10th Civilian Aspects of Crisis Management course at European Security & Defence College in Rome.
He has been a lecturer in the second level Master's degree course in Intelligence and in Intelligence specialist at the University of Calabria in Cosenza and at the Link Campus University.
He is also the author of the following books:

He holds the rank of Divisional General (R) in the Carabinieri Corps and has received numerous decorations and honors, in addition to being a Knight of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic.
