The Sustainability Strategy and Plan
At the heart of Enel's commitment is the zero-emissions ambition for 2040. This is according to a roadmap that’s in line with the Paris goals to limit the average global temperature increase to below 1.5°C compared to pre-industrial levels and with targets certified by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), which covers both direct emissions generated by the Group's plants and indirect emissions produced upstream by suppliers and downstream by customers.
Enel promotes a just transition, in line with the principles defined in the International Labor Organization's (ILO) Just Transition Guidelines, based on constant dialogue with Stakeholders, Enel people, suppliers, communities and customers.
Customers are active participants in the energy transition. This is also through increased awareness of their consumption, efficiency measures, and the electrification and decarbonization options that are available to them. Enel aims to improve their experience by leveraging attention and listening in order to better understand their need, with the goal of increasing loyalty, taking full advantage of the potential of digital technology for increasingly effective interaction.
The Group places its people at the center by leveraging individuals' well-being, motivation, sense of responsibility, active participation and entrepreneurial approach. It promotes the educational experience of continuous learning, through programs that improve existing skills in order to access more advanced career paths (upskilling) and to learn new skills (reskilling).
The fight against climate change cannot be separated from a commitment to the conservation of natural capital, which is increasingly impacted by the consequences that climate change is having on biodiversity and ecosystems. This is why Enel continues in its efforts by promoting the protection of natural capital and the restoration of the habitats that are impacted by its activities.
Suppliers are indispensable partners for Enel for making sustainable progress and realizing the process of transformation of the energy system. This requires change and evolution in the way work is carried out and goods and services are provided.
In every activity, Enel is committed to respecting human rights through an integrated, across-the-board approach that takes into account the needs of Stakeholders along the entire value chain. Protecting the health and safety of the Group’s employees and suppliers is a shared responsibility at every level and an ongoing commitment that has the aim of avoiding accidents and raising the bar in every situation.
Responsible relationships with communities are an enabling factor for all sustainability activities. A deep understanding of the context in which the Group operates enables sustainability to be integrated into the business in order to create synergies between business and community needs along the value chain.
